Conwy United have been informed that the proposal to change the name to “Conwy Borough FC” has now been given final approval by the FAW Council.
Club chairman Geoff Cartwright says that the club has made the change in order to help the club appeal to a larger catchment area within the county of Conwy and to bring all the teams under the clubs banner under one roof. The clubs junior section already play under the “Conwy Borough” name.
"It is with a view to improving the appeal of the club both supporter-wise and to help attract more commercial investment to aide the development of the club longer term. This is now a catalyst for us to move things forward and we hope that people will really get behind the club." Cartwright explained.
Aberconwy MP, Guto Bebb, has also backed the decision to change the club's name: “Club officials have outlined to me the business plan for Conwy Borough Football Club as a “Community Hub” Project and I was impressed by their passion for this project and the benefits it can bring to the wider community.” said Mr Bebb.
“From discussion that my office have had with local residents and other interested parties, I am of the view that supporting the Community Hub Project and name change can only be of benefit to the community and youth of Conwy.”
The club are also in the process of converting its formation into a Community Interest Company (CIC) to become community owned and to help attract funding to replace the existing clubhouse and improve facilities with a view to obtaining an FAW club license.
The club will now go through the process of changing over its branding over the course of the next several days with more details to follow.
